eM Client is a Windows-based email client known for its user-friendly interface and robust features. While eM Client doesn’t have a direct setting to input a SOCKS5 proxy within the app, it does utilize the Windows system proxy settings when connecting to the internet. This means by configuring the Anyone.io free proxy at the system level, you can effectively have eM Client’s communications go through the Anyone.io network. Doing so can help protect your privacy (hiding your IP from mail servers) and allow you to access email services on networks that might otherwise block them. Here’s how you can set it up:
Since eM Client relies on Windows’ proxy configuration, start by setting the Anyone.io proxy in Windows. Open Settings from the Start menu, then go to Network & Internet>Proxy. Under Manual proxy setup, toggle the switch to On. Alternatively, go to Control Panel>Internet Options>Connections>LAN Settings and enable the proxy there.
In the Address field of the manual proxy setup, enter 127.0.0.1 (assuming the Anyone.io client is running on your PC; otherwise use the appropriate IP of your Anyone.io relay device on the network). In the Port field, enter 9050. For the Control Panel method, you’d click Advanced and put 127.0.0.1 and 9050 in the Socks fields. Ensure to save/apply these settings. Note that eM Client will use system proxy for its network calls, and it specifically can leverage it for services that sync or any web components.
Open eM Client once the proxy is set. There is no special indication within eM Client that it’s using a proxy; it will just apply the Windows settings by default.
Proceed to send and receive emails in eM Client as you typically would. The network requests that eM Client makes (such as contacting IMAP/POP servers for incoming mail, or SMTP servers for outgoing mail) will now be directed through the Anyone.io proxy. This means the communication is going out via the Anyone.io network rather than directly, providing anonymity and a different route.
By routing eM Client through an Anyone.io proxy, you gain extra privacy for your email usage. Your email providers and any other servers eM Client contacts will see connections coming from the Anyone.io network’s nodes instead of your local IP. This helps anonymize your email access – useful for protecting your personal information or if you simply prefer not to reveal your location. In addition, if you are on a network that restricts email traffic (for example, blocking SMTP ports or specific mail servers), using the proxy can allow you to circumvent those restrictions. The encryption inherent in the Anyone.io network means that your ISP or network admin can’t easily snoop on your email traffic; all they would detect is an encrypted stream to the proxy. eM Client’s functionality (calendar, contacts, chat, etc.) continues to work as normal, and those network requests similarly benefit from the proxy. Essentially, you’re enjoying a level of privacy similar to using a VPN, but confined to your email client and without any subscription fees.
