Essentially, you’ll direct Mailbird to use the Windows system proxy settings (which we will configure for Anyone.io). This way, Mailbird will connect to your email servers via the encrypted Anyone.io network, hiding your IP and potentially bypassing network blocks. Here’s how to set it up:
Launch Mailbird. Click on the Mailbird menu (the three-line menu or the settings icon). Select Settings and then navigate to the Advanced tab within settings (Mailbird’s interface may have a specific “Proxy” section in newer versions).
Look for an option related to Proxy. Mailbird might display a message or setting such as “Use Proxy” or “Change Proxy Settings.” In many cases, Mailbird doesn’t let you enter the proxy info directly but provides a shortcut to adjust Windows settings. Click on “Change Proxy Settings” – this will open the Windows Internet Settings dialog (the same as going through Control Panel or Windows Settings for proxy).
In the Internet Settings that appear, go to Connections>LAN Settings>Advanced. Under the Socks field, input 127.0.0.1 as the address and 9050 as the port (assuming the Anyone.io client is on this PC). If you haven’t set it earlier, this is where you basically add the Anyone.io proxy to system settings. Press OK to close the dialogs and apply. (If you had previously set up the system proxy for Anyone.io from earlier steps with other apps, Mailbird will just use those.)
Close and reopen Mailbird to ensure it picks up the updated proxy settings.
Now send and receive emails with Mailbird as you always do. With the system proxy active and Mailbird set to use system settings, all your email account connections (IMAP, POP, SMTP, or Exchange via IMAP/SMTP) will be routed through the Anyone.io proxy. This happens behind the scenes – your Mailbird interface will look no different, but the network calls go through the proxy.Mailbird to ensure it picks up the updated proxy settings.
