The Bat! is a powerful email client for Windows, favored by many for its security features and advanced options. It allows configuration of proxies for different protocols, which means you can set it up to use the Anyone.io free proxy network for retrieving and sending emails. By doing so, The Bat! will route its email traffic (POP3, IMAP, SMTP) through the Anyone.io SOCKS5 proxy. This protects your IP address from being seen by mail servers and adds an extra layer of encryption to your email connectivity. The Bat!’s interface includes a Network/Administration section where you can input proxy settings. Follow the steps below to get The Bat! working with the Anyone.io network:
Launch The Bat! email client. Click on the Options menu and choose Preferences (in some versions, it might be under an “Options > Network & Administration” section directly). This opens the configuration window for The Bat!.
In the Preferences or Options dialog, find Network & Administration on the left side. Click on Proxy within that section. This is where The Bat! lets you define how it connects to the network via proxies.
You’ll see options to enable a proxy. Check the box or option that says “Use proxy” or similar. The Bat! might allow separate proxies for different protocols, but it also often has a global setting which applies to all accounts.
Choose SOCKS5 as the proxy type (there may be a dropdown for proxy type listing “HTTP, SOCKS4, SOCKS5”). Enter the proxy server address and port: in Server field put 127.0.0.1 (if running Anyone.io locally) and Port field 9050. If there are fields for Login and Password for the proxy, leave them blank (the Anyone.io free proxy does not require authentication). Make sure to apply these settings. In newer versions of The Bat!, once you set this globally, it covers all your accounts’ connections.
Click OK to save the settings. Now use The Bat! as you normally would – click Send/Receive to fetch emails from your accounts or send out messages. The Bat! will establish connections to your email servers through the Anyone.io proxy you configured. You might notice in the Connection Center or status bar that it’s using the proxy for connecting. Everything else about managing your email (reading, composing, etc.) remains unchanged.
The Bat! is already security-focused (offering end-to-end encryption options, PGP, etc.), and using it with the Anyone.io proxy further bolsters your privacy. Your email servers (whether it’s Gmail, Yahoo, a company server, etc.) will see connections coming from the Anyone.io network rather than your device, which means your actual IP/location stays hidden. This adds anonymity to your email routine. It’s particularly useful if you want to prevent anyone who might be logging connections from linking them to you, or if you are accessing email over an untrusted network. Additionally, if certain email services are blocked on your network or if you travel to a place where your mail server is not reachable, the Anyone.io proxy might allow The Bat! to connect by circumventing those restrictions. Performance-wise, you shouldn’t see much difference for normal emails – The Bat! will still send and receive quickly, as the Anyone.io network handles the routing efficiently. The layering of encryption (Anyone.io’s multi-hop relay on top of your TLS email encryption) creates a situation where even the fact that you’re connecting to a mail server is obscured to local observers.
